Autumn Splendor | Peak Leaf Viewing in Western New York

Something beautiful is taking place in the Northeast this time of year. With cooler temperatures and shortened daylight hours, the trees are going through a change and showcasing their full Autumn splendor.  Leaves are turning stunning shades of bright red, yellow and orange.

Autumn wildflowers are popping with amazing colors- blossoms of yellow, purple, blue, red and white. Chrysanthemums, also known as Mums, are in full bloom with deep shades of orange, red, yellow and purple. Berries of all kinds are ripening and ready to be plucked by hungry birds.

With changing leaves, comes falling leaves. For some, this is seen as a tedious chore- raking and bagging leaves so that the green grass shows through for a little while longer. I personally think that multi-colored leaves on the lawn are beautiful. For kids of all ages, Autumn is a time to rake the freshly fallen, crisp leaves into big piles and jump into and play in them!

If you haven’t done so yet, pack a lunch and go for a walk or a drive before all of the leaves fall, soak up the warm sun on your face and appreciate all that nature has to offer with the dazzling fall colors. Breathe in the crisp Autumn air and the wonderful smell of fallen leaves. Winter will be here before you know it. You may also find it’s easier to see the birds now that there are fewer leaves on the trees.
